Faralda Crane Hotel operates by invitation: three suites at the top of a restored harbour crane on the NDSM yard, with each request reviewed individually and confirmed in writing before any stay takes place. No Booking.com, no walk-ins, no membership program. Just three suites and a process that works differently from anywhere else in the city.
The word “exclusive” gets used loosely in hotel marketing. A five-star hotel with two hundred rooms and a Michelin star is often called exclusive, even when one click on an aggregator gets you a booking. Real exclusivity sits elsewhere: in limited capacity, in selective admission of guests, and in an experience that cannot scale.
Three tests to measure it:
Capacity. How many guests are in the building per night? When hundreds of guests pass through a lobby, even the best suites cannot deliver a truly exclusive experience. Faralda holds a maximum of six guests per night across the entire property, distributed across three suites.
Access. Can anyone with a credit card book it? Faralda operates by invitation: requests are screened and confirmed in writing before any stay is booked. Not every request leads to a stay.
Replicability. How many other places offer the same experience? The Faralda crane is an industrial monument, restored under the Pieter van Vollenhoven Award, on a singular location overlooking the IJ. No other crane in the world serves as a hotel.
A stay begins with a request through the Faralda website. In the form you specify your preferred dates, the occasion of the stay, and which suite you are interested in. The team reviews each request within forty-eight hours and replies in writing.
Three possible outcomes:
Once approved, the stay is confirmed. Private check-in, personal concierge, and exclusive use of the shared spaces of the crane.
The top-tier option. Two levels at the highest point of the crane, freestanding bath, panoramic IJ view. For guests who do not compromise.
Two levels, king-size bed, rain shower, full jacuzzi access. The least intimate of the three in interior, but the same location and the same view.
The romantic option. Curated art, an atmospheric freestanding bath in the suite, and full jacuzzi access. Positioned specifically for couples, anniversaries, and honeymoons.
For exclusive use of the entire crane, a separate buyout option is available — all three suites at once, for milestone birthdays, corporate events, or productions.
Privacy. No lobby with guests of other hotels. No bar where outsiders walk in. The property is dedicated entirely to the three suites and their guests.
Personalisation. Each stay is prepared based on the information provided in the request. Breakfast preferences, dietary needs, scheduling: everything is arranged in advance. Not from a generic playbook, but specifically for the stay.
Discretion. Faralda’s stakeholders and guests include brand names such as LVMH, Bacardi, Heineken, Red Bull, Samsung, and Rituals. Discretion is not a marketing claim but an operational requirement.
Incomparable location. The NDSM yard in Amsterdam Noord is not a tourist district. The crane stands at the IJ with direct views of central Amsterdam, reachable in twelve minutes via the free F4 ferry from Centraal Station.
